Blogging from ODF Olympiad (india) prize ceremony at Kolkata

Just watched Jaijit from Sun announce the names of the winners from India at the Science City Auditorium. Bright kids all, and also from A-list premier english medium schools.

Nothing’s wrong with that, except they are hardly the kids that *really* need FOSS… I was also wanted to hear the total number of participants this year, but only got to hear the details on webserver logs.

Even I wanted to know how many participated in the first phase and how they ( I heard 24 of them) reched the finals at Kolkatta. And what one could present in 7 minutes?

Is it just to create some hype as parents and teachers of the selected candidate are flown to Kolkatta and provided accommodation as well.

However, it is good that some children have a great satisfaction of achieving something, though them may not use the open source ever !!

I encouraged one of the kids I know and she put in lot of efforts and made an entry to the Olympiad and there was no acknowledgment email/participation certificate reached her yet. She sent email asking if the entry reached them and no response for that either. It is hard to see the school kid being so disappointed. May I know whom I could contact and raise the concern? Is the participation certificate issued at all? Is it sent thru email? I just googled to find out if there is any news at all on this contest and landed here! If you know anyone in the management committee can you please raise the concern?
